This week, CIBER held a scientific congress in Valencia to celebrate its tenth anniversary as a consortium. The event concluded last Friday with the awarding of prizes for the best presentations of each thematic session. A Valencian “socarrat” was awarded as a symbol of a decade of biomedical research at CIBER. The scientific directors were in charge of awarding the prizes, which consisted of a traditional Valencian ceramic tile, which included a letter “C” that represented Science, collaboration and commitment, symbolizing 10 years of joint advances in health.
Over three days, the CIBER congress brought together 227 oral presentations of research projects, 6 round tables, 10 thematic sessions, 8 ‘flash talk’ sessions, training workshops and various scientific outreach activities, with the participation of more than 1,500 members of the research and healthcare community. Dr. Sandra Torres was recognized with the award for the best communication of the thematic session on steatosis and cardiometabolic risk for her presentation entitled: “Role of STARDI in hepatic mitochondrial-derived oxysterols in the development of cardiovascular dysfunction in MASH”. This study arose from the collaboration between the groups of Dr. Fernández-Checa belonging to CIBEREHD and the group of Dr. Llorente-Cortés of CIBERCV, both belonging to the Barcelona Biomedical Research Institute (IIBB-CSIC).
