The SCB (Catalan Society of Biology) Trajectòria Professional Leandre Cervera 2021 award has been granted to Dr. Francesc Artigas for his career in research on mental illnesses and their neurobiological bases, in addition to his study of the mechanisms of action of antidepressant and antipsychotic drugs. The award will be presented on September 16 in the cloister of the Institute of Catalan Studies (Barcelona), where Dr. Francesc Artigas will give a brief lecture.

Doctor Francesc Artigas is honorary Research Professor at the Barcelona Institute for Biomedical Research (IIBB). He has been Head of the Department of Neurochemistry and Neuropharmacology since 1995. The repercussion of Francesc Artigas' works is very remarkable, with 240 works frequently cited and numerous invited lectures.

The SCB Trajectòria Professional Leandre Cervera award is granted to most relevant professionals in the study of life sciences who stand out for their professional career, for their contribution to the dissemination and development of biological sciences and who represent moral values ​​and ethics effort of the Catalan Society of Biology.

In addition to this award, in 2015 he recived the ECNP Neuropsychopharmacology Award, the most prestigious European award in this discipline, being the first Catalan and Spanish scientist to be awarded this award since its creation in 1989.
