The University of Barcelona has awarded an Extraordinary Doctorate Award to Dr. Maurizio Riga, from the Systems Neuropharmacology Group (Department of Neurochemistry and Neuropharmacology, IIBB-CSIC), for the Doctoral Thesis "Modulation of cortical serotonergic receptors by psychotropic drugs. Implications in schizophrenia and depression "co-directed by Dr. Mª Pau Celada and Dr. Francesc Artigas. The thesis includes a total of 5 original articles and 2 reviews, focused on the analysis of the effects of drugs with activity on 5-HT1A, 5-HT2A and 5-HT3 receptors on the activity of pyramidal neurons of the prefrontal cortex, and its possible repercussion in the treatment of depression and schizophrenia.
The award will be presented on April 19 at the Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona.
