Elia Ivars and Margalida Puigròs, IIBB researchers and members of the "Molecular Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration" research group, participated last November 27 in the European Night of Research, held at the Cosmocaixa Science Museum, with the stand entitled "Mum! Mum! Where does mitochondrial DNA come from?".

During this activity, they introduced children to the concept of mitochondria, their function, what mitochondrial DNA is and how it is transmitted from generation to generation. Through visual and dynamic games, they made these scientific concepts easily understandable for a child audience. In addition, they took the opportunity to share with the adults the most recent results of their research in the laboratory.

The experience was very enriching for all participants. The Night of Research is a scientific popularization event that is held simultaneously in several European countries with the aim of bringing research closer to society. Specifically, this event is organized by ESCIENCIA and the "La Caixa" Foundation within the RESEARCH NIGHT: BRINGING RESEARCHERS INTO THE LIGHT project, financed by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions (call 101162311/HORIZON-MSCA-2023-CITIZENS-01).
