This study explores our biological knowledge about lysosomes, which are compartments within our cells specialized in recycling. Our study shows how lysosomes can adjust their activity based on the nutrients available for the cell, which leads to activation of the TFEB transcription factor. The manipulation of the lysosomal system activity has aroused great interest recently, since the increase in lysosomal activity can result in an increase in the elimination of protein aggregates that are responsible for certain diseases, including some neurodegenerative diseases
